According to World Health Organization, 2.0 billion people still do not have basic sanitation facilities such as toilets or latrines. Of these, 673 million still defecate in the open, for example in street gutters, behind bushes or into open bodies of water.
In Africa, the situation of open defecation remains one of the most talked of banes as the UN estimates that 60 percent of the population do not have access to decent toilet facilities. This has contributed to the spread of bacterial diseases such as cholera, diarrhea and polio infections.
